Rehearsals
Until the end of February 2009 Ryde Chorus rehearsed in the school hall of the Dover Park Primary in St. Johns Rd, Ryde every Thursday night between 19:30 and 21:15, except during school holidays. From February 26th the venue changed to Ryde School (opposite All Saints church).
Rehearsals are very ably accompanied by Arthur Firth on piano, and are conducted by our Director, Philip Fryer. On the rare occasion when Philip is unable to take rehearsal, we have a very capable deputy in the person of Richard Benger
We are always happy to welcome new members to every section of the choir and while auditions are generally required after a mutual trial period of a few weeks duration, they are quite informal and are usually taken in a group consisting of other new members and some established members to make the process as pleasant as possible! - it is more important for us that members have a love of music and singing, plus a willingness to learn a wide variety of good music from simple to quite challenging.
The choir was up to full strength for our performance of Elijah but prospective members are invited to contact us nonetheless. If you are not sure whether this is the choir for you, then come and sit in on a rehearsal. Contact the secretary beforehand either by telephone or email and we will make sure that someone is available to make you feel welcome and to answer any questions you may have.
Current subs are £25 per year, plus £1 per rehearsal that you attend. A good incentive to pitch up regularly is the post-rehearsal drink at one of the local hostelries! To join us, simply turn up to a rehearsal and introduce yourself. Alternatively, call us (see contact page). Some people value being taken to their first rehearsal and it is usually possible to offer a lift to prospective members.
Rehearsal Schedule
Rehearsals for the Christmas concert begin again on September 3rd - telephone secretary for details
In addition, the choir will be singing in the Isle of Wight Minster on October 17th - raising funds to support 'Building Schools for Africa'
